Hemp n' Half Update - Grinding Tip

This morning I made a fresh batch of hemp 'n half and, for the first time, tried pre-grinding the hemp seeds and chia seeds. (I used my beloved Cuisinart Nut and Spice Grinder for this purpose, but a regular coffee grinder would do.)

After just a quick buzz in the grinder, I added the ground seeds to my Vita Mix and proceeded as described in the last post.

WOW! The results are sooo creamy! Honestly, I have to say: maté latte never tasted better!

I plan to use pre-grinding method again – if not always, at least from time to time. Although Hemp 'n Half comes out fantastic without pre-grinding (which does add an extra step) the results might just be a little bit more ultimate in the smooth and rich department.

A votre sante! ♥ Diana

Diana, I can't thank you enough for this recipe!!!
If you add frozen fruit to it you get ice cream!
Yummy!

Mmmm, ice cream! How did you do this, Sarah? Please divulge your secrets! Did you simply add some frozen fruit (what kind?), blend and eat straight away? Or was there refreezing involved? Inquiring minds want to know...

Okay, lots of questions from me. Sorry about that! But that's what you get for having a blog full of wonderful information! Do you ever worry about gluten contamination in hemp or chia seeds (like oats might be contaminated). Or during your chia research did you hear whether it is processed in a factory that also processes wheat?

Your creamy hemp 'n half looks divine. Great for all kinds of things, I'm sure!

Melissa, I've never heard any concerns about chia-gluten contamination.

The chia I use, from Navitas Naturals, says gluten-free on their label and I've seen chia promoted at Celiac Conferences (Salba brand was doing a big gluten-free push a few years back).

I guess its always good to verify the specific brand, though. As you are WELL aware!!!! If some big wheat-wielding company like General Mills gets in on the chia action, you never know.

Thank you for this recipe. I'm going to give this a try this week. I've been looking some kind of alternative milk to add to my tea. I never would of thought to add chia.

You're welcome! Yes, the chia really helps it hold together—not perfectly, but WAY better than without. :)
